While it was widely rumours that the Gambia Football Federation was considering a local coach as a temporal replacement for sacked Raoul Savoy, no word is heard from the country’s football body over the hiring of a coach.
Pundits, journalists and fans continue to ask but no answer is provided.
However, with The Gambia sitting bottom of Group M and with a little or no chance of finishing top of the group, to some, it is better they consider local coach to lead the scorpions in the remaining matches.
Couple of weeks ago, Gambian professionals had a meeting with the GFF president and expressed concerns over series of issues surrounding the scorpions, among which is the hiring of a coach. It was understood that some of the players believed that, the GFF should consider giving former national team players the chance to coach the scorpions.
The Gambia will travel to Mauritania to play against their sub-regional counterparts on Wednesday 23, March 2016 and four days later, 27 March 2016 The Gambia will host Mauritania at home at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Editor’s Note: The reason why the rumours surrounding a local coach died out isn’t clear but with time running out, the GFF must be planning to fail, as the saying goes, "failure to prepare is preparing to fail."
