Gambian striker Ebrima Sanneh says that he wants to make a name for himself at Kenyan Premier League club Nairobi City Stars by becoming a goal-scoring machine.
Sanneh, who is in his second season at City Stars on loan from Gambian club Real de Banjul, has managed to break into the Kenyan side first eleven and has continued to show his glimpses under coach Gabriel ‘Kingi’ Njoroge, scoring five league goals to emerge as the club’s top scorer.
The 20-year-old striker, whose goals guided City Stars to a 2-0 win over Mathare United in their last fixture, says he wants to write his name in the club’s history books.
“My aim is to set my own record at the club, to be the leading goal scorer at City Stars. Playing in another country makes me happy, the joy of playing in foreign league is immense,” Sanneh, whose goal against Hawks led to the City Boys been confirmed Champions in 2014, said.
Sanneh meanwhile preferred the Kenyan Premier League [KPL] to that of Gambia following how competent and professional the league is run.
He exuded his happiness playing in the KPL giving a comparison between his native country’s top tier league with the Kenyan top flight.
“When I first came here, I suffered a lot from home sickness. Most of the time I was bored but I am now settled and enjoying my time here as well as my football,” he explained.
He added: “Here, the league is broadcasted live on transcontinental pay television and it offers one a platform to grow and showcase his potential.’
The tall lanky forward also took time to hail his club chairman Peter Jabuya for helping him settle in Kenya.
“My team mates have been supportive and so is the chairman. He’s been my father here, taking me under his arms, and offering guidance,” he said.
Nairobi City Stars currently lie on 15 position in the 16-team KPL table with 17 points after 23 matches.
The Kawangware-based side will hope to have their striker on top form again when they visit Tusker FC on Friday – a match that offers Ebrima the chance to come up against his compatriots and former teammates at Real de Banjul, goalkeeper Alagie Nyabally and midfielder Matarr Nyan respectively.
