Bridging the gap that exist between the provincial regions and the greater Banjul was what lured the Lamin Kaba Bajo led executive to launch what they called, ‘Getting closer to them and bridge the gap’ approach to football development in The Gambia.
This model according to the GFF president was developed cognizant of the potentials regional football can provide in The Gambia’s overall football development, “This was why when we assumed office I and members of the executive conducted a nation-wide fact finding tour to all the regions, followed by monthly executive meetings held in North Bank Region, Central River Region, Lower River Region and Upper River Region.”
Kaba said, regional football associations benefitted from a number of educational programmes notably in coaching, administration, refereeing and in first aid training courses.
“Aside the training courses, the regional football associations also received office equipment and furniture to help manage their day-to-day administrative responsibilities effectively and efficiently,” he said.
He added that there was significant financial support given to the regional football associations singling out cash donations made to Bansang and Gunjur respectively.
Kaba also informed delegates that work has since commenced in the FIFA supported artificial turf in Soma, Lower River Region.
Another development the GFF supported was the pending football final in Lower River Region.
