The newly appointed Women Football Coordinator, Sainey Sissohore has said that her immediate objective is to see football take a greater responsibility in ensuring gender equity.
She was speaking twenty-fours after receiving her appointment to a job Choro Mbenga vacated few months ago.
She told Nna Gambia News Online that she feels honoured to be appointed out of the rest to coordinate women football.
“I appreciate the confidence the authorities of the Gambia Football Federation have in me.
“I am grateful,
"I came from a long way to get this far.
"It is one step at a time. The process has just begun for me,” she said.
Outlining her immediate objective, the 18-year-old said she will love to embark on a study tour to know what is required to help develop the game. According to the former U-17 assistant captain, she will also want to partner with the Schools’ Football Association to organize inter-school football competition for girls.
“Apart from that I will also want to engage the regional football association to establish a women football league.
“I will also engage on aggressive media campaign with the GFF media subcommittee in a bid to develop and promote the game across the length and breadth of the country,” Sissohore said.
The left footed former Abuko United captain now women football coordinator, called on all stakeholders to help and cooperate with her.
“I will need help and cooperation especially from the GFF, the Women Football Association and everyone in women football.
“I am sure that together we can achieve our objectives,” she added.
The new women football coordinator pointed out that she will just continue from where Choro Mbenga stops.
She said, “I will surely emulate her.
“I know we all have the same objective which is to take women football to the highest level
“And I will do this without fear or favour.
“Women football ‘Sa Kanam InshaAllah,” she said.
Sainey Sissohore started he football career with Abuko United, a first division team in the women's league and rose through the ranks to become the captain of the team.
She became the vice captain of the U-17 team that went to the FIFA U-17 Championship in Azerbaijan.She was the spokesperson of that U-17 team.
She was one of the five girls selected to serve as ambassadors of women football in the FIFA Live Your Goal project before she was appointed coordinator of women football.
