Gambian international defender Omar Colley has said that he doesn’t want to watch from the stance when his side takes on AIK Solna on Monday in the Swedish Allsvenskan league.
Colley was forced off at halftime when he suffered a knock on his knee in a 2-1 home win over Hacken at the Tele2 Arena on Saturday. The win saw Djurgarden, who is currently on a 15-game unbeaten run, close to the gap on league leaders IFK Goteborg to within two points with 36 points from 18 games.
“It was a weird feeling. I ran with Kerim and made a sudden stop in my running and I felt pain in my knee, it was like it had been turned. The medical team said that everything is stable, but I’m not feeling all right,” Colley told FotbollDirekt.se in the mixed zone after the game.
“I could not play because it did really hurt when I ran. My knee is swollen and sore right now so I could not play.”
But as he waits agonisingly for results of the X-ray, Colley is frustrated by the prospect of a possible spell on the sideline at the most crucial point of the season and as The Gambia also prepares for next month’s African Cup of Nations qualifier at home to Cameroon.
“It is frustrating because we’re in a position right now where we cannot afford to lose players,” Colley said of a Djurgarden team that has won ten and drawn five of its last fifteen consecutive matches.
“I do not want to miss the derby (against AIK), and then we meet Elfsborg and Hammarby [later]. These are big games that I do not want to miss. But I do not know yet, we’ll do an X-ray first and then we’ll see what happens.”
