Gamtel/cel continued their dominance in the 2015 National Volleyball league after beating interior 3-0 ( 25-16, 25-20, 25-23) to extend their grip in the title race.
It took Gamtel/cel 20minutes to complete the first set with a striking 25-16 points.
Interior’ Coach Ebrima Nyass made a slight changes at the break, though his side returned for the second set with transformed persistence and immediately scored 6 points without any response from the opponents via Assan Jallow and Sainey Singhateh much to the amusement of a handful onlookers. Sanu Secka kept on his impressive performance to denied Interior from level pegging winning the second set 25-20.
The telecom giants almost fell in the 3rd set as the hosts, Interior produced a cutting-edge start with individual brilliance and great defensive display which prompted an instant response from Gamtel/cel’s technical side calling for a timeout. After the timeout, the cellular boys sailed to victory winning the set 25-23.
In the female league the interior women were leading 2-1 when the match was called off as a result of poor lighting system. The match shall be rescheduled for a later date to be determined by the volleyball federation.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of Africvan Volleyball has nominated Gambian referee Bai Doudou Jallow as a referee delegate to the games which officially opened on September 4th in Congo Brazzaville.
Jallow is the first Gambian volleyball referee to be categorized among the top international volleyball referees across the continent. The 39-year-old became an international referee in 2011 after completing 11-day International Refereeing Candidate course jointly organized by Federation of International Volleyball and the Confederation of African Volleyball in Abuja, Nigeria
Speaking after receiving his nomination, Bai Dodou said: ‘’I am grateful and honored to accompany the Gambia delegations to All Africa Games and I am ready for the uphill challenge,
“It is really a huge challenge. This is the first time I am going indoor volleyball at the continental level, I am doing my physical preparation and sure it would be a successful debut appearance for me.
“It is a big honor to represent your nation, when you go there they would introduce me as Gambian referee and that alone is raising the flag of the Gambia, so to sum it all I am privileged and confident to do my best he concluded,” he said.
