Gambian striker Ebrima Sanneh goal for Nairobi City Stars ensured Alagie Nyabally and Matarr Nyan’s Tusker FC suffer another embarrassing defeat that killed their fading hopes of winning the SportPesa Premier League on Friday.
The lanky Gambian forward put the visitors ahead just three minutes to the interval after he connected well with Calvin Masawa’s cross from the right to smash home from six yards out past Martin Musalia.
The goal came moments after Tusker keeper Duncan Ochieng’ was given his marching orders when he handled the ball outside the box in the 36th minute to deny the menacing Sanneh a clear goal scoring opportunity.
Sanneh, who is in his second season at City Stars on loan from Gambian club Real de Banjul, has continued to show his glimpses under coach Gabriel ‘Kingi’ Njoroge, emerging as the club’s top scorer with six league goals.
Goalkeeper Nyabally and midfielder Nyan were both unused substitutes in Tusker’s defeat.
The result leaves City Stars with 20 points still at relegation zone while Tusker are fourth after amassing 37 points after 24 matches played.
