The Independence Stadium athletic tracks worth over D15million is near completion. The athletic tracks were under renovation for over four years and by the look of things, the tracks might soon host some track and field events.
Last week, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member for Gambia, Beatrice Allen, accompanied by a high-powered delegation inspected the renovation work at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
After the inspection, the IOC member expressed delight that the country’s only athletic track was getting back to normalcy.
Beatrice however said that the money they spent on sending athletes to training camps elsewhere could now be spent in areas of sports.
She also advised the stadium management to take preventive measures in preserving the tracks especially during social events.
