A brace from Awa Jawo was enough to see Red Scorpions win the super cup. Awa scored one in the first and another in the second half to earn Choro Mbenga’s side the bragging rights over arch rivals Interior.
In what was a highly charged match, Awa rose high to head head home the opener in the 15th minutes and the winner, a goal that that compete for the goal of the season award in the 78th minute of the game.
After the game the match winner told Nna Gambia News Online that she is delighted to be the match winner for her side. She said she will score more goals this season because she wants to improve on her assist and goal scoring.
“This is something I have been working on and thank God I started the season with two goals. I want to score more and provide more assists for my team too,” Awa said.
Asked to describe the second goal, she said: “I saw that the goal keeper left her goal line so I tried a long range, something I try at training too. It was a great goal. That was the reason I took my shirt off while celebrating. You can’t control your emotions when you score goals like that especially if it is a match winner.”
